The following notes come from the Pevensey Parish Council meeting held at the end of Day 1 with the Cosst Road Gas Network upgrade work, SGN Project Manager, Steve Colvin came to the meeting to offer feedback about the first day.—Dianne Dear, Wealden District Councillor, Pevensey and Westham, 2 November 2016

Update feedback

  • Public said the closure wasn’t started early enough.
  • Drivers on the railway crossing don’t believe Coast Road is closed even though plenty of signs up and forcing their way through at least 7-10 drivers being bloody minded
  • SGN putting up more signs, at least 3.
  • Moorings business being helped with drop off points being planned and guests being escorted across the road.
  • First dig saw the gas main in road was very bad a lot worse than expected they will put a camera down today to inspect further
  • SGN reiterates that the closed signs mean closed and drivers abusing the signs are causing major hazards especially by the Normns Bay railway crossing.
  • Also they have stipulated that Ethel Wood hall will be open always and will control flow with traffic lights, they have had lots of enquiries coming in but mostly positive at present.
  • 4×4 vehicles have been spotted driving along the shingle, no one is sure where they are entering the beach but they drive along the beach at owners risk !!
