The GMB Union are holding a Rally in town to raise public awareness of the ESCC Budget cuts. The EPA will be out in town together with the unions. We will be leafleting, collecting signatures for the petition…..there will be at least one speaker plus more. Please come along to support this rally. Our local services are under threat by the proposed cuts.—Eastbourne Peoples Assembly, 30 January 2016

The ESCC will have £40 million less to spend on adult social care services by March 2019. This is in addition to the £28 million that has already been saved from these services since 2013. This will mean drastic cuts to front line services. Services under fire include:

  • Proposed cuts to ‘Supporting People’ Services: sheltered housing schemes 100%, supported accommodation 35%, accommodation for homeless teenagers 50%, people with learning difficulties 100%, people with mental health issues 100%, people who are homeless with complex needs 100%, refuge service 20%, young mothers 24%.
  • Voluntary Sector ESCC funded service providers will have their funding slashed or completely removed: Terence Higgins Trust, Autism Sussex. Stroke Association, East Sussex Disability Association, Alzheimers Society, Southdown Housing, Age Concern, Age UK, RVS, Action for the Blind, East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre, East Sussex Vision Care, and The Sussex Deaf Association.
  • The drug and alcohol prevention services for adults and children.
