The first public engagement for Councillor Christopher Hardy, the new chairman of Wealden District, was attending the launch of the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance in Hailsham Civic Community Centre—Wealden Council, 20 May 2016
“The alliance is a great opportunity to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and support their carers,” said Councillor Hardy afterwards. “I am sure the communities across Wealden will want to get involved and work together to improve the caring environment so that people with dementia can continue to make the most of their lives.”
The Wealden Dementia Action Alliance event was attended by nearly 100 people and included speakers form the Alzheimer’s Society, Rotherfield St Martin, the Buxted Golden Ticket project, Know Dementia and East Sussex County Council.
The Hartfield Councillor was appointed Chairman at the Annual Meeting of the Council of 18 May. Councillor Pam Doodes, who represents Ninfield and Hooe with Wartling, was appointed Vice-Chairman.
Councillor Hardy thanked the previous Chairman, Councillor Barby Dashwood-Morris for the contribution she had made as Chairman over the past year, and said he was looking forward to the opportunities offered by the year ahead to visit as many Wealden organisations as possible.
Cllr Hardy will be using his term as Chairman to focus on helping young people and people with learning disabilities.
There were no changes to the responsibilities of Wealden’s Cabinet portfolio holders, but the new chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee is Cllr Greg Rose who takes over from Cllr Jonica Fox.
