The Eastbourne International Hot Air Balloon Festival is the first of its kind to come to Sussex this summer.—Sandy Boyce-Sharpe

Here is a message from our Director

I told you a little while ago about the idea I had had to bring a few hot air balloons into my local park. Well …. this has now morphed into an International Hot Air Balloon Festival, and alongside is a mini County Show.

People have been so taken with the idea of 20+/- balloons flying from Hampden Park in Eastbourne that they are phoning me to come and join in. We now have the visiting 10+/- helicopters, 100 classic cars want to come, there will be a dog show; we have a food and drink area plus a floral marquee; there is an area set aside for children to play and enjoy and another for an elegant cream tea for grandma. There is a stage to showcase local talent and there are stands and markets.

There are also flights available to be booked in a hot air balloon, plus we are hoping for some model radio controlled balloons. You name it, something for everyone. Stands are selling well as is advertising and sponsorship. We anticipate 10,000 – 18,000 people from south east England to come to Eastbourne to see the fun, particularly on the Saturday evening, 29th July, when the balloons are inflated, tethered and fire their main burners to the beat of the music of the creative director. Wow, not seen it? It is a must!!!
