Eastbourne Buzz, a trusted news source based online in Eastbourne, has won national attention for their coverage of the campaign to save Pevensey Bay Library—Bay Life 13 October 2017

Eastbourne Buzz story to feature in national debate with Trinity Mirror Group digital supremo, David Higgerson, about growing influence of hyperlocal press in the country

Bay Life understands that the coverage of the campaign by Eastbourne Buzz with regard to the campaign to save Pevensey Bay Library is to feature in a key article in the mainstream press.

Matt Abbott, Communications and Project Officer for the Centre for Community Journalism based at Cardiff University told Bay Life (11 October) that one of the aspects of the hyperlocal press that he wanted to investigate was “the two disciplines”, print and the web, and what was happening at the local level.

The unfolding story of the campaign to save Pevensey Bay Library covered by Eastbourne Buzz at the Priory Court Hotel on Monday October 2 is to feature in the debate.

Eastbourne Buzz is to feature as a keynote illustration of the positive connection that the hyperlocal press can make to local communities at times of critical debate about rural public services and questions about the role of ‘localism’.

The attention of Matt Abbott has been drawn to the work of Eastbourne Buzz and the value of their output.

Simon Montgomery, editor of Bay Life said that he intended to highlight the work of Eastbourne Buzz as an example of best practice in the hyperlocal world of print and the web as part of the debate.

The article will see a response to David Higgerson, Digital Publishing Director at Trinity Mirror (Regionals)

Simon said, “The Bumble Bee that flies wins national attention in the mainstream press, this is a headline that is deserved

“Without question, Eastbourne Buzz is the best news source in Eastbourne by a very long way.

“The suggestion that according to the laws of Physics, the bumble bee should not be able to fly, is of course an urban legend.

“Thank you for supporting us with your stories about saving Pevensey Bay Library and the video blog on the night that interviewed all participants in the keynote debate, delivering the story in the morning and the video blog in context with balance, insight and thought.

“This is the way to deliver the hyperlocal news, up front and personal, most importantly in context, delivering the news on the big questions that matter to local people, there when it matters.

“We understand that what you are doing is to receive national attention in the press in a discussion about the value of the hyperlocal press that includes David Higgerson, Digital Publishing Director at Trinity Mirror, Regionals.

“Congratulations with the delivery of your news source and the attention that the story and delivery on the night has brought you”.
