An East Sussex Highways spokesman responded to the letter from local resident, Helen Brown today (14 March). You can read the original letter here. Letters to editor, The State We Are In : Coast Road, Pevensey Bay—Bay Life, 13 March 2017

An East Sussex Highways spokesman said: “Due to our limited resources, we prioritise the roads where there is the greatest need for larger-scale repairs or resurfacing.

This process includes an annual survey of our network, taking into account reports from our engineers and highways stewards, as well as from the public.

On this basis, the section of Coast Road east of Beachlands was considered to be a higher priority than the western section of the road and was therefore resurfaced.

While the western section of Coast Road is not scheduled for any further planned maintenance work in the current financial year, we will consider it for resurfacing in future years.

Meanwhile, the local highway steward carries out regular inspections of this section of road and arranges for any smaller-scale repairs that may be required for safety issues”.
