Junior doctors’ all-out strike action – 26th and 27th April 2016
Junior doctors are due to take all-out strike action (no emergency cover) between 8.00am to 5.00pm on Tuesday 26th April and Wednesday 27th April.
We have put in place measures to ensure that our services remain safe during these periods:
- From 8.00am to 5.00pm on both 26th and 27th April, emergency care will be prioritised – we will continue to provide all urgent and emergency care services (including A&E and maternity) and all community services
- Our Consultants will cover the usual duties of our junior doctors on our hospital wards to ensure the safety of inpatients.
- We have rescheduled virtually all operations and procedures along with outpatient appointments which were due to take place during the industrial action.
Patients whose appointments or procedures have regrettably been cancelled as a result of the industrial action, have been contacted directly. They have been told their appointment or procedure will be rebooked as soon as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our patients during this period of industrial action, these are circumstances outside our control (this is a national strike).
Patients and the public can help us during this busy time by choosing the appropriate health services for them – details of local services are available on the NHS Choices website – www.nhs.uk/strike
Alternatives to A&E
If you become ill with a non-urgent condition and need advice, please visit Health A-Z for information or go to your local pharmacist. For more urgent conditions that you believe you can’t take care of yourself, you should contact your GP as usual, or call 111.
For minor injuries or illness (cuts, sprains, rashes and so forth) you could visit a walk-in centre, minor injuries unit or urgent care centre if the problem can’t wait for a GP appointment. Bear in mind that these services may be busy during the strike.
