Through April we will be profiling all the candidates who are making their statements accessible to the public, as part of their campaigns to become East Sussex County Councillors. We begin with local man, Daniel Brookbank, standing as an independent.
Candidate statement
East Sussex County Council Election, 4 May 2017
independent, Daniel Brookbank
On the 4th May this year we have the opportunity to vote for a Local Councillor to serve our ward of Pevensey and Stonecross. I am standing as an Independent candidate and I would ask you to read this post and vote for me.
I’m Daniel Brookbank , and was born and raised in East Sussex. I have lived in Pevensey Bay for the last 12 years. For the last 10 years I have served on Pevensey Parish Council. I am the Chief Executive of a local sightloss charity as well as being the Chairman of Pevensey Senior Support Group.
We have a unique area that needs someone who is committed to it and who is not tied by National or Party Politics. Someone who supports people, business, the environment and a sense of community.
By standing as an independent I am free from party politics which have no place in local matters. A Local Councillor needs to be able to react, support and deal with issues that directly affect people in his or her ward. National Politics can interfere with local processes forcing a party or national view that is not relevant or not in the interests of the local people.
I will not make empty promises which I cannot be sure to keep I would continually put pressure on the Council when something needs doing, find out how and argue the case until a satisfactory outcome is achieved.
I would take a sensible, balanced approach to our County and especially our ward, I would do my utmost to get things done and I would continually question, discuss and press for what is right for us
Please consider voting for someone other than a national candidate on the 4th May this year, someone who is local to the core, please vote for me.
If I were elected to represent you on the County Council I would:
- Set up a monthly surgery to enable members of the community to engage directly with me
- Make sure the collective voice of Pevensey and Westham is heard at County Hall and keep the ward informed directly via the Parish and District Councils and make good use of social media
- Try to ensure that the people of Pevensey and Westham get the very best from their County Council
- See that our roads are properly managed and kept up to a standard that is acceptable
- Support the more vulnerable members of our society, older, disabled and children
- Take a particular interest in social care for people
- Work with local businesses to support them
- Support and champion local community and charity groups
- Work with people on an individual basis
- Support local cultural and artistic opportunities to enhance people’s lives
- Campaign for cleaner streets
- Support a sustainable and attractive environment
- Protect our specialist rural areas
- Support sustainable energy resources
- Encourage sensible housing opportunities for first time buyers and social housing
Please vote for me on the 4th May to repersent Pevensey and Stonecross.
