In the penultimate lecture in the first series of the gateway talks to accompany the work of the Pevensey Timeline Association, Dr. Geoffrey Mead, lead tutor with the project, brings the studies of students back home
Continuation students and the audience will find out more about the locality that includes the ground beneath their feet. In a preliminary introductory talk to the Timeline Association, Dr. Mead sat in the garden of the Ocean View Bakery and Restaurant and decoded the building, its development, the garden, the coastline and the Channel to a group of 14 students, electrified by his ability to communicate local history and geography in such an engaging and infectious way.
It was the start of a journey for a number of students that led to their induction into the timeline project, further tutored studies and the writing of their own historical accounts of aspects of the locality as ‘timeline graduates’.
Talking about his penultimate talk in this first series, Dr Geoffrey Mead told the Pevensey Timeline Association, “after several talks that place Pevensey in a wider context, this talk on the Pevensey coastline brings our studies back to the home area for a detailed look at pebbles and people, housing and hotels, fishing and foreigners”.
