Time is running out if you are not already registered with your local authority to vote, and you want to have your say in the May County Council elections.—Wealden District Council. 21 March 2017
Voters in Wealden are reminded they have until midnight on Thursday 13 April to register if they are not already on the electoral roll. If you are not registered, you can’t take part in the East Sussex County Council elections on Thursday 4 May.
“If you have recently moved into the area, or moved house, you may not be on our electoral roll, and so you won’t be able to have your say on 4 May,” said District Registration Officer Charles Lant.
“Since the move over to individual electoral registration a few years ago, it is now up to each one of us to make sure we are registered to vote. To apply is an easy online process. Just go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and fill in your details.”
The call for voters to sign up comes as the Electoral Commission launches a national voter registration campaign to encourage as many people as possible to register ahead of elections taking place this year across the country.
Emma Hartley, Head of Campaigns at the Electoral Commission said: “Our research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are particularly less likely to be registered to vote. So if you have moved house recently, then make sure you’re registered correctly. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in East Sussex.”
