Concern is beginning to grow amongst local residents about the future of Pevensey Bay Library
The absence of information from East Sussex County Council is beginning to irritate and in some cases, anger, local residents.
Talking to Bay Life, one reader said, “do any of your team have any news about the library closure in the Bay since 8 January?
“Each time we pass the library, nothing seems to be happening inside; is it still drying out? The landlords seem to have done a lot of work converting the flats above, but the library is the only space without the new double glazing.
“The library information helpline has no news either. The Bay is not the same without this vital service!”
The lack of information has not been helped by the newsfeeds supplied by the Council. In January, there was notice of ‘temporary closure’. This has now become ‘closure until further notice”.
Is it good enough that two months have passed without any more information becoming available in the public domain?
What the village needs to know is the likelihood of the library returning to these premises and if not, what arrangements East Sussex County Council intends to put into place to see that their duties and responsibilities are fulfilled to the people of Pevensey, Westham, Stone Cross, Pevensey Bay and Norman’s Bay.
Is it good enough that they have said nothing for two months, that our county councillors have said and done nothing and that as things stand, we have no library and it would appear, no hope of knowing when the situation will be either explained or addressed?
