Pevensey Bay—wish you were here

Pevensey Bay has been described as ‘the hidden jewel in the crown of Sussex’. It has all the old fashioned traditional charm and character that people in years-gone-by have written home about with their ‘wish you were here’ cards.

With its fish and chip shops, shingle beach, post office, village market, scattering of restaurants, newsagents, mini-supermarkets, myriad of Bed and Breakfasts and holiday lets, together with its own bakery, it’s not hard to understand why people fall in love with the place and pitch-up to stay.

People who come to live in the Bay encapsulate this spirit. It’s a popular place to be for both young families and retired people. A strong sense of community permeates the seasons.

Amenities and resources link the locality in the provision of key services. An HSBC Bank, medical centre, pharmacy, library and award winning information centre in the shape of an upturned boat completes the picture with all the services accessible within easy walking reach.

A number of public houses, all different, give the place a sense of variety choice and contrast. Key events on the calendar like the yearly Classic Car Meet and Pevfest see hundreds of people flock to the Bay to enjoy a different day out.

For some people, seeing a glorious sunset across the Bay with the tide out, stepping between the tarnished gold groynes, hand in hand with a loved one, walking the dog or simply in conversation with a knot of trusted friends, is about as good as it gets.
