Come on Over to the Congress Theatre as The Drifters are back! On tour in the UK with a brand-new show, performing all their classic hits from the last six decades the legendary group will be in Eastbourne for one-night only, 11 July.
The Drifters were created in 1953 by George Treadwell & Clyde McPhatter. George Treadwell managed the group and laid the foundation of what would make The Drifters one of the greatest groups of all time. Clyde McPhatter was the lead singer of the group that also welcomed numerous members over the years but two others stood out above the rest – Johnny Moore and Ben E King.
After George’s death in the late 60s, his widow Faye continued with his passion and determined the direction the group would take. Faye took The Drifters on to great achievements that saw them grow and become a household name.
Tina Treadwell, daughter of the late George and Faye Treadwell, current President of the Treadwell Entertainment Group and owner of The Drifters name explained “I am very excited that following our 65th anniversary year we have a new show for the fans who we invite to join us in celebrating this incredible and everlasting story of The Drifters.”
The American doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group have delivered numerous hits on both sides of the Atlantic, previously been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and are listed among the greatest artists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine and have produced an incredible back-catalogue of hits – including; Saturday Night at the Movies, On Broadway, Up on the Roof, You’re More Than A Number, Come on Over to My Place, Stand By Me, Under the Boardwalk, Kissin’ In The Back Row, Save The Last Dance For Me, Down On The Beach and more!
