We are reliably informed that Ian Gallagher, with his ‘Classic Bublé, the new swing experience’, added a special element to his performance last last night with a rendition of Nessun Dorma, to a standing ovation at the sell out evening.

The evening which saw the Bay Hotel, with the building nominated by manager Karen Hudson as ‘the Grand old Dame of the Bay’ took a step forward into the limelight.

The event is likely to become something of a talking point this week.

The hotel which is going through a major restoration process is currently dressed in scaffolding. The performance last night was part of a series of monthly ‘supper style’ events as part of this restoration process.

The project management team at the hotel  said last week “THE GRAND OLD DAME and the exciting times ahead. We would like to keep all our customers old and new updated about the story of The Bay Hotels as it returns to its origins

“The external works begin next week, please note the car park will be closed from Monday 11th Feb. but we will be open for business as normal.

“Your support and patience over the next few weeks would be gratefully appreciated”.

We also understand this coming week that the project management team is to consider some kind of community involvement, with the display of plans for the restoration process, as well as an ‘online project timeline’ about the plans, setting out stage by stage, what is to be done in the coming months with the major works.

The project manager at the Bay Hotel talked to us yesterday (16 February).

He talked about some of his local creative ideas as the project launches and impressed with his depth and range of knowledge not just about the project but the wider economic and social context of the project.

A possible blog online for the project was mentioned. He was also keen to point out that he is “utilising local trades people” for many aspects of the work. He said “we have not brought in people from outside the area for this project”

Seemingly the performance last night by Ian Gallagher went down very well indeed.

Ian Gallagher was born in London, but at an early age went to live in Santa Barbara, California USA with his parents until the age of seven.

At the age of eleven and having returned to the UK, he started taking singing lessons with four different singing teachers. Ian’s big break came when he auditioned with the Ray Shields Orchestra and appeared in the blockbuster film “Yanks” featuring Richard Gere. Ian was chosen for the part out of 400 other competing singers. The movie was a great success, taking 4 months to film and he sang with an 18 piece band, which he greatly enjoyed.

He has also performed live at the famous London Palladium, The Talk Of The Town and The Savoy.

We are also informed that Ian Gallagher may well be back in May or June at the Bay Hotel.

New style events and developments at the Bay Hotel are beginning to attract interest from local residents, with the performance last night by Ian Gallagher, the subject of excited discussion by at least one group of dog walkers on the beach in Pevensey Bay today.

News of next events at the Bay Hotel in the coming months is available here.
