Doctor Who, JLS and the cast of EastEnders are among the highlights of this year’s Children in Need, which hopes to raise more than £26m

The popular One Show Rickshaw Challenge pedalling around the clock to cover 700 miles raising money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK arrives at Elstree Studios live this evening.

In Lewes, 15-year-old Kyle Stockley-Pollard is shaving off his flowing locks for the good cause with a BBC crew filming his effort, which will be screened later in the evening show.

Staff at Legal and General in Hove will be shaving legs, wearing all-in-one-suits and baking cakes to raise money. They will also be taking calls for the charity appeal when it goes live on BBC tonight.

Fund-raising events will be taking place all day around the UK.

Organisers hope to beat last year’s on-the-night donations of £26.8m – a record high for the telethon, which has been running since 1980.
