Eastbourne Borough Council and Lewes District Council (6 August) are appealing for photos, stories and memories for an exhibition to celebrate 100 years of social housing.
This year marks the centenary anniversary of the Addison Act, which saw the start of large-scale social housing in the UK. Christopher Addison was the Minister of Health who guided the new Housing Act through Parliament in 1919.
The councils will be holding an exhibition later this year to show how housing in the area has changed over the years. Commemorative trees will also be planted in Eastbourne and Lewes.
Councillor Alan Shuttleworth, Cabinet Member for Housing for Eastbourne Borough Council, said: “We would love to hear from tenants with their stories and photos of housing in the town through the years including present day. I’m sure there are many fascinating insights just waiting to be told.”
Councillor William Meyer, Cabinet Member for Housing for Lewes District Council, said: “We’re interested in people’s memories and descriptions of how housing has changed and what it means to tenants both then and now.”
