Broken glass story: Bay Life Responds to accusation of sensationalism and lack of social responsibility by Pevensey Parish Council

I am really upset that you are still carrying this alarmist and incorrect story about the Coast Road Recreation ground. Despite the Parish clerk having given you the facts of the matter yesterday, I see the story is still on Bay life website. This is personally upsetting to me, as Chairman of the Recreation grounds committee and I feel that it really misrepresents the Parish Council as the responsible body.

I would ask you to take the story off the website, and set the correct facts before your readership.

Yours sincerely

editor response:
It is difficult to see precisely the purpose of your message to us.

We have no intention of ‘taking down’ the article you cite. This is not something we consider, unless we see good reason for such action. In this case we do not see any such reason.

The message sent to us by the clerk to Pevensey Parish Council has now been answered and you will see what we have said.

As we have explained to clerk, Malcolm Lawson, we have added to the story a byline that indicates the view of Pevensey Parish Council that this story is sensationalist. The byline points to his communication with us and our response.

Your message to us suggests that in some way, there is, by implication some kind of slight against Pevensey Parish Council for failure of duties in some way to monitor the playground.

This is not the case and has never been suggested by Bay Life.

Your message to us we consider to be misplaced in some way.

You say that the story has misrepresented the Parish Council as the responsible body. We have not mentioned the Parish Council. We do not see any way in which, even by implication, that this conclusion could have been drawn.

We are sorry that you feel personally upset by the post. In no way was the post directed to you, or your role on Pevensey Parish Council. We were not even aware that you had a role with regard to the Recreation grounds. We are sure that as the Chairman of the Recreation grounds committee you perform your duties with credible purpose and a sense of duty.

As we have explained in our response to parish clerk, Malcolm Lawson, there is neither a need nor a requirement for us to publish a story that we believe to be in the local interest first by reference to you as a parish council.

There is not a need or a requirement for us to publish a story that we believe to be in the local interest first by reference to you as a parish councillor either.
