Talking to Bay Life today (5 March), Clerk to Pevensey Council, Malcolm Lawson, told us that meetings had taken place between East Sussex County Council their surveyors, the landlord and his surveyors.

There are to be two surveys and East Sussex County Council are hopeful that the results will be known by the end of this month.

Credit to both East Sussex County Council and Pevensey Council. After 14 months wait, are we at last seeing progress and movement towards a possible date when the library will re-open?

Credit also to the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library, relentlessly campaigning over the last four months to see that attention remains focused on the issue until something is done to return the much loved and utilised resource to the community.

PEVENSEY COUNCIL—STATEMENT—PEVENSEY BAY LIBRARY
Following Councils’ representatives meeting with ESCC on Tuesday I am able to give their latest update on the Library.

” We have met with our surveyors, the landlord and his surveyors.  We have reviewed the condition of the building and agreed the locations for the surveys.  There will be two: one to check for asbestos and an intrusive investigation, which we hope will conclusively identify the cause of the damp problems.  We are hopeful that that we will have the results of the surveys by the end of the month.  With the survey findings we will know what needs to be done, how long it will take to do, and when the library is likely to reopen”

Pevensey Parish Council will continue to be involved in monitoring  progress.
