beach tavern new build

Pevensey Parish Council has adopted a principled pro-active stance in objection to the proposed build of a three storey ‘apartnent block’ at a meeting held on March 3, attended by the public. The news in relation to their objections has won praise across the community this morning (March 8), marking another key stage in the objections to the build, now beginning to come from stakeholder bodies in the locality with the statutory authority to comment about the plan. —Bay Life, 8 March 2017

At a planning meeting held on March 3 by Pevensey Parish Council, to which members of the public were invited, five grounds were given on which the proposed 3 storey building plan at the Beach Tavern site would be opposed.

The meeting chaired by Councillor Lowton, also gave an opportunity for members of the public to air their comments.

Councilors summarised their view by suggesting that the plan was an ‘excessive overdevelopment’ and totally out of character with the locality.

Points made included the fact that the building proposal was too tall, leading to a loss of privacy and light to neighbours, that the proposal lacks car parking space provision and that the arrangements in some cases appeared to be dangerous and also that the waste management facilities planned are insufficient.

In a keynote summary by councillors Pesagood and Councillor Brookbank, (chair to Pevensey Parish Council) it was also stated that any housing development should be available for permanent residents and not as holiday homes.

The statements and summary about the proposed build were carried unanimously by the planing committee with the public in attendance..

The news that Pevensey Parish Council has now taken a stand against the proposed development is clear and unequivocal, adding pressure on Wealden Council to listen the voice of the village in their deliberations.

The Findings of the parish council, published today (March 8) have won praise across the community this morning.

Local resident and senior citizen, Pauline Montgomery said “what they must have taken note of is what people have said, they have obviously taken note of what local residents have said, which would include people who have got an interest in the history of the village, that is good news for the village, and I hope that something more suitable is going to fill the space.

“The voice of the people has been heard”.

The view of the proposed build is moving towards a situation in which the village, the Parish Council and other interesetd parties are all beginning to distance themselves from what is increasing being seen as an absurdity of some description..

John Davey on hearing about the proposed build told Bay Life “I have just read about the 3 storey building that is proposed for Pevensey Bay. I have lived in Pevensey Bay for 38 years. It is too big and looks like a 1950s East German prison, totally out of character with what is in the Bay, not exactly a white elephant. more like a dirty great big brown elephant”.

A petition against the scheme online at change.org has now been signed by 336 people.

Pevensey Parish Council has won praise for their pro-active stance and principled objections to the plan.
