Today I have updated the Pevensey Bay Parish Clerk and the Friends of Pevensey Bay regarding the work I am doing to reopen Pevensey Bay Library.  I wanted to share this update with you directly as well.—Alice Henderson, Team Manager Library Operations, East Sussex County Council, 27 April 2016

Statement by East Sussex County Council confirms news that a target open date for Pevensey Bay library is to be issued by May 16

Alice explained to Bay Life, “In our last statement we explained we had surveyors completing intrusive investigations and a report on the source of water damage at the site.

“We have analysed the findings of the report and are gathering estimates and an outline timetable for the works.

“We will issue a full public statement by Monday 16 May, in which I will include a target open date for the library.

“My colleagues in the Communication Team will ensure you are contacted directly with the statement”.

Bay Life editor, Simon Montgomery, gave the following response. “Fantastic work. You will get the credit you deserve on the Bay Life platform.

“I would like to say, in spite of all the delays, that I believe East Sussex County Council to have played a straight bat about the matter of Pevensey Bay Library since the start.

“There have been many delays, doubts and criticisms (some of which have come from Bay Life), but I have always believed that you as a Council have been doing everything possible to see that the precious resource at the heart of the community that is Pevensey Bay Library, would re-open as soon as was practicable.

“All the residents and visitors to Pevensey and Pevensey Bay, and from far and wide, I am sure, will welcome your statement today”.

He added, “Local resident and library campaigner, Margaret Martin, who has done so much, with her team, to develop the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library, which now has widespread, sustainable support within the community, described the need for all the authorities concerned to subscribe to ‘joined up thinking’.

“The news that you have outlined today is a prime example of this joined up thinking.

“A full public statement by East Sussex County Council by Monday 16 May, in which you will include a target open date for the library is news, I am sure, that will be widely welcomed across the community.

Simon ended his response with a direct message to Alice Henderson, Team Manager, Library Operations at East Sussex County Council.

“With regard to this issue, you, your Communication Team and East Sussex County County are a credit to this community, and that is publicly what will said, through the pages of Bay Life”.

Bay Life will publish the full statement which is to be issued by 16 May by East Sussex County Council, as soon as the further information becomes available.
