Pevensey Bay is sweltering in heat as temperatures reached 31C/83F at 11:00am
The BBC is reporting that we may be seeing the hottest day on record in the country later today. If we reach 39C/102F, the likelihood is that the record will be set somewhere in the South East.
A local senior citizen, told us this morning (25 July).”this is the second day that I have not been out with the dogs and this certainly will not happen today, I need to get some money from the post office but I won’t even be going out today myself, the heat is just too extreme to walk to the village”.
Today the BBC says “extreme, and perhaps record-breaking heat is possible today. It will be dry and mostly sunny with light winds, although some cloud may drift in from the south this afternoon.
The BBC has also suggested that people are being urged to help out vulnerable friends, relatives and strangers in the heat.
Age UK has issued guidance for older adults to stay safe while homeless charities are handing out water and sun cream.
Dog owners here in Pevensey Bay have looked outside and acknowledged for the second day running that there is no chance of taking the dog out for a walk in the extreme conditions.
Service staff in the award winning Ocean View Bakery and Restaurant in the Eastbourne Road in Pevensey Bay sweltered yesterday. Flagging by 3:00pm, but still smiling and moping their brows and fanning themselves, staff carried on serving a full cafe.
One of the staff said to us quietly “this is f**king madness, if it gets any hotter i am going home.”
Noteworthy today is the lack of people outside on foot, with a very small footfall of people into the Bay as temperatures soar.
