The Pevensey Parish Council social media channel has posted a statement by East Sussex County Council
At last are we seeing progress and some possible resolution to the issue of flooding at the library which happened in January 2015?
Credit to Pevensey Parish Council for communicating the news across the community in the best way possible, their new social media channel is proving to be of value within the few weeks that the channel has been established. This is the way to see that people get the news.
The issue with regard to the closure of the much loved and much utilised community resource for over a year has perplexed, infuriated and exercised the local community in equal measure.
There has been literature about the closure all over the villages, petitions, public meetings and discussions about what to do.
The work undertaken by the savvy Friends of Pevensey Bay Library Group has injected a real understanding of the importance of the social context of the issue, right across the locality. Support for the organisation has come from as far afield as Portsmouth and Buckinghamshire.
The strength of feeling about the issue in Pevensey Bay amongst residents from all walks of like, and all ages, is palpable.
With the spotlight now so clearly focused and pressure mounting to see that the issue is resolved, it seems clear that the news from East Sussex County Council will be welcomed.
Tomorrow (Saturday 20 February), the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library plans a small peaceful photo opportunity demonstration on the steps of the library to further raise the profile of the issue.
Something like 40,000 people in the locality are without a comprehensive library service..
The token efforts to pretend that there are library services in the area, which in Pevensey Bay is currently represented by a shelf in the corridor next to the toilet in St. Wilfrid’s Church, have not worked. There are only so many times that you can borrow the book “News from No Man’s Land: Reporting the World” by John Simpson..
The demonstration tomorrow is the right way to put the case, to see the library returned to Pevensey Bay.
Credit to East Sussex County Council for publishing a full clear statement about the issue, hope unlike the flood, springs eternal.
East Sussex County Council have issued the following statement re Pevensey Bay Library
“The county council has had some discussions with the landlord of the Pevensey Bay Library and we expect survey works to begin on site within the next few weeks .The county council is frustrated that it has taken so long even to get to this stage but we are hopeful that works to remedy the damp problems in the building can now progress speedily so that the library can once again be available to the residents of Pevensey Bay.”—East Sussex County Council, 17 February 2016
