We are delighted to announce that James Braxton, one of the stars of BBC2′s “Antiques Road Trip”, will officially open our ART, CRAFTS & PHOTOGRAPHS EXHIBITION on Saturday 26 August. He has also appeared in Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and owns “The Lamb Inn” in nearby Wartling.
A fundraiser for St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne, the exhibition will he held at St Wilfrid’s Church Hall in Pevensey Bay and the doors will open at 10 am. Entrance is free.
There will be over 20 exhibitors displaying their work with several of them demonstrating during the day. There will be some new exhibitors this year and also a couple of new features.
The family of Jeanne Gamson, in whose memory we organised last year’s exhibition, will be presenting an award to the person who creates their favourite exhibit. The award has been created by Gill Bridgestock who will be at the event demonstrating embossing on pewter.
A second new feature will be a display of artwork by Michael Stringer. An Oscar nominated Hollywood Film Production Designer and Art Director, he lived in Val Prinseps Road in the Bay until he passed away in 2004. Michael worked on over 50 films including 633 Squadron, Inspector Clouseau, Casino Royale, Fiddler on the Roof and Genevieve amongst others.
Once he retired from Hollywood and settled here he painted a lot of local scenes featuring buildings and individuals, including members of the Pevensey Bay Art Group (c 2000), and designed the Safety Curtain at Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne.
We will have several pictures, kindly loaned to us for the day from local residents, as well as other examples of his artwork on display and believe this might be the first time an exhibition of Michael Stringer’s work has been held in the Bay.
If anyone else has any of his artwork and would like it included either on ‘display only’ or ‘for sale’ please contact us on
We’d love to hear from you.
