Plans begin for the Pevensey Whale Blast From the Past evening at the Aqua Bar in Pevensey Bay.—Bay Life, 2 June 2017
Story of Pevensey Whale to be celebrated with Blast from the Past Evening at Aqua Bar
The 71ft Pevensey Whale, beached 1 mile from the Aqua Bar on 13 November 1865, one of the largest fin whales ever to be beached in the world, is to be celebrated this July, with a special evening that will blast a new punk style song by signed musician, Peter Barron, to the waves about the story of the Pevensey Whale.
Speakers pointed to the waves will blast the song at 8:00pm one evening in July as a commemoration to the Pevensey Whale. The skeleton of the Pevensey Whale is now displayed, suspended across two floors, in a newly commissioned multi-milllion pound museum in Cambridge that will draw visitors from across the country.
Here in Pevensey Bay, in 1865, the Whale was visited by upwards of 20,000 people.
The new punk style song will be blasted out at 8:00pm, the first time that it will have be heard, before being released to the BBC, to be followed by an evening of properly constituted, historically appropriate music from Tom Waits, to the Ramones, the Clash and Lou Reed.
Author of the song, local resident Peter Barron, will be available during the evening to sign copies of the new EP, which will be available for sale at the Aqua Bar as part of the event.
Peter, whose compositions have attracted interest from specialist radio stations, and who is now a signed artist with Copro Records, is known for his T-Rex and Punk inspired songs, with strong narrative couplets.
Bay Life understands that the song even includes references to the name of the coastguard who was the first person here to see the huge Pevensey Whale, at 8:00pm on 13 November 1865
In telling the story of the Pevensey Whale, which is to be blasted to the waves in July from the Aqua Bar, we wanted to know more about how the song sounds.
Keeping wraps on how the song sounds and what the story entails, talking to Bay Life, Peter refused to comment apart from quoting Lou Reed,” One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you’re into jazz….”
This is a ticket event, Tickets available from 1 July.
