The Sebastian Faulks smash-hit show Birdsong finishes its UK Tour in Eastbourne this week, in the same venue where it all began back in February.
The tour, which has played across the UK to packed and appreciative venues, returns to the Grade II listed theatre due to huge public demand, it is on now until Saturday 12 July.
The cast assembled on Eastbourne beach to celebrate the end of a hugely successful tour, which returns to the Devonshire Park Theatre after officially opening the spring season to a virtual-sell out week, in which even restricted view seats were sold!
The show, which is based on Sebastian Faulks best selling novel, follows the epic love story between a young Englishman Stephen Wraysford who embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful French woman Isabelle Azaire, set against the horrors of the First World War and trenches of the Somme.
In the year that marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War, audiences have flocked to experience this powerful and hugely acclaimed piece of theatre.
Adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff, Birdsong has become a classic of modern English literature and is taught on both the English and History syllabuses at schools and universities. Regularly voted as one of the nations all-time favourite books, it has sold more than two million copies in the UK and more than three million worldwide.
