The Eastbourne Bombers softball team of men & women aged 18 and up, was established in 2016. We asked what kind of sponsor the team was seeking this season—Bay Life 20 February 2019

Local mixed softball team, the Eastbourne Bombers, in search of sponsor for 2019 season

Talking to Bay Life yesterday (20 February), about the establishment of the team in 2016, Michaela Da Silva, told us, “our presidents love softball more than chocolate, so seeing that there was no team in Eastbourne, they thought it was time to introduce the local population to the amazingly awesome sport!”.

The team is, ‘an adult slowpitch team for men & women aged 18 and up’.

Michaela explained, “slowpitch is the way the ball is pitched (or bowled to the uninitiated!)

“Basically in our sport, the pitcher pitches the ball to the batter using an under arm motion. It has to go above 6 feet but be kept below 12 feet. It’s a slower pitch which means it’s a hitting game!’

The team trains every Thursday from April-September, which from the group pictures provided looks like a lot of fun. Michaela added, “we train hard, play hard and eat a lot of burgers!”

The team were lucky to find a big hitting  sponsor for 2018. Zoonou is a Sussex-based software testing company. For more than 10 years the company, based in Eastbourne, has helped clients create world-class digital experiences. They have delivered over 3,000 projects tested by their UK-based ISTQB accredited team.

Michaela said the sponsorship of Zoonou  had been “awesome” and that the team was “so grateful for their support”.

She was also keen to emphasise, “it’s thanks to local businesses supporting us that we’re able to keep costs down for our members”.

The first ever season in 2107, she highlighted, was ‘full of silverware’.

In their first full season (2017) Michaela said that the Eastbourne Bombers had been “phenomenally successful!” They won, “Disco Ball, Hit and Run , Rookie ball and the Cotswolds Autumn Tournament”.

They were runner up in a local “Viper Series” (a series held between Eastbourne, Brighton, Chichester and Guildford).

The four trophies in their first full season looks like a neat start.

Without question, what comes across from the team is acres of enthusiasm, spirit and excitement about their endeavours.

Train hard, play hard and eat a lot of burger may not be part of their logo on their shirts, but the exciting spirit of their fast growing mixed sport, certainly comes across in their communications.

Asked about the kind of sponsor the team was seeking this season Michaela said “we offer a range of options for anyone looking to sponsor a local team in one of the UKs fastest growing sports, catering for all budgets!! Best way to find out more is to email Rochelle at
