BEAUTIFUL – THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL
Congress Theatre, Eastbourne; 11 – 15 February 2020

The Carole King Musical Beautiful comes to the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from 11 – 15 February. This hugely acclaimed musical, based on the early life and career of legendary singer songwriter Carole King, enjoyed a highly successful West End run of two and a half years, almost six years on Broadway and a sell-out tour, it won Olivier, Tony and Grammy awards and now comes to Eastbourne for the first time ever!

Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. This musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit song writing team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.

Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, including one of the best-selling albums of all time, Tapestry, and countless classics such as (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Take Good Care of My Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might as Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof and The Locomotion. The show also includes the Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann hit songs You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling, On Broadway and We Gotta Get out of This Place

The cast features the celebrated actress Laura Baldwin who knows Eastbourne well; she was Cinderella in Eastbourne’s 2018 pantomime and has since gone on to wow the West End with her performance in hit show Waitress and Eugenius!

Daisy Wood-Davis will play Carole King and is probably best known as Kim Butterfield in Hollyoaks. Other TV credits include EastEnders and Holby City and theatre includes; Dreamboats and Petticoats in the West End and tours; The Rocky Horror Show and Hair.

With Adam Gillian (Hadestown at National Theatre) as King’s husband and song-writing partner Gerry Goffin, Laura Baldwin (Waitress, Eugenius!, Big Fish) as song-writer Cynthia Weil, Cameron Sharp (School of Rock and Rock of Ages in West End, Jesus Christ Superstar, Avenue Q) as song-writer Barry Mann.

Cast also includes; Susie Fenwick (The Sound of Music, Cats, Aspects of Love and Les Misèrables in West End) as King’s mother Genie Klein and Oliver Boot (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the National Theatre, Finding Neverland, Antony and Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe) as music publisher and producer Donnie Kirshner.
