In a development for 2015, Bay Life is to begin work with Sussex Downs College by forging links with a new citizen journalism scheme.

The mentoring programmes will involve students being taught how to work with the online publication, delivering their own articles to our growing audience.

Eric Burrel, the first student to work with Bay Life from Sussex Down College said, “I currently write for my college’s English magazine and have sent articles to the Eastbourne Herald, which have been published in the ‘My Herald’ section.

“I also have a blog where I write mostly book reviews and about things that generally interest me. I also volunteer at my local Oxfam Bookshop, where I get to explore my love of literature.

“I am mainly interested in writing film/book reviews or writing about political/social issues”.

On hearing the news that he had been accepted as the first student on the Bay Life Citizen Journalism scheme, linked to Sussex Downs College and its work experience programme, he commented “thank you very much for this opportunity”.

The new column written by Eric Burrel, EB Calling, begins in the pages of Bay Life in January 2015.
