Pevensey’s undefeated start to 2014 continued with a high scoring draw against a youthful Chiddingly.
Batting first in muggy conditions, openers Plumley (36) and Temple (47) were watchful against the swinging ball, and punishing against the bad as they put on 72 for the first wicket.
This allowed the middle and lower order time and freedom to play their shots with almost everyone contributing, held together by a masterclass in bat speed from Williams (42*). 247-8 declared.
Although Chiddingly lost 2 quick wickets in reply, momentum was maintained through the clean and frequent 6 hitting of Crocombe, who took a liking to anything pitched in his half as the scoreboard was kept moving.
Together with canny defence from Lofthouse (38), Chiddingly progressed to 140-2 and seemed to be headed for victory.
It took a whip-smart run out at the non-strikers end by skipper Plumley to remove Lofthouse, and with one end open, Pevensey began to chip away.
Owen (4-47) finally got some luck against the middle order, and when Crocombe was run out for an excellent 115, Chiddingly shut up shop on 211-8, with both sides getting 18 points.
