BACKGROUND
Pevensey Bay Life was founded in January 2010 and went live in beta form in June 2010. It is one of three sites in the UK based on the same set of principles, the other two sites are in Narberth (West Wales) and Benbecula (Western Isles of Scotland), serving similar sized communities.
The company behind the site development, with its approach to marketing communities online through the use of open source tools and social media, was voted in 2010 Civic Voice ‘UK Developer of the Year’ (Community Association sites).
- Pevensey Bay Life has already played a public role in a key calendar event in 2010, Pevfest. For the event it provided a ‘one stop’ shop for news. breaking news, information, and event schedules from organising bodies, together with on the day 140 character snapshots of events as they happened, and post event analysis. On the day of Pevfest, this section of the site had close to 1,000 page views.
- Pevensey Bay Life is also involved in a new economic initiative in the locality involving the training of young people.
Pevensey Bay Life is involved in community campaigns and community events. Contributing Editors offer the online publication fresh news about local issues.
Pevensey Bay Life also enjoys the sponsorship of Pevensey Coastal Defence Limited, based in the Bay, whose public role is to manage sea defences to protect and enhance the local environment. Pevensey Bay Life gratefully acknowledges the support of the team through their sponsorship of Bay Life in 2010 and 2011. The Pevensey Bay Sea Defence scheme is unique. It was the first sea defence project anywhere in the world to be funded as a Public Private Partnership.
