Get your Street Party Applications in on Time

If your local community is planning a Royal Wedding street party over the bank holiday weekend, 29 April – 2 May, please ensure you apply for a street closure in plenty of time to allow for the necessary consultations to take place, is the upbeat advice from Wealden District Council.

“We don’t want to hold up anyone’s festive plans but we do need to allow time to consult with the emergency services and East Sussex County Council to make sure a street closure does not jeopardise anyone’s safety by blocking access routes,” said Councillor Pam Doodes, Cabinet member for Community. ” Of course, not everyone’s Royal Wedding celebration plans may involve a street closure, but if they do, we are asking people to try to get their applications in to the Council by Friday March 18, to allow enough time to carry out the necessary consultations.

“It is not so much a case of get me to the church on time, but get the form in on time. We want to keep red tape to a minimum and avoid any disappointment caused by applications for this special event arriving too late.”

Application forms, and further information about the procedures involved, are available on the Wealden website.

Interest is growing in the Royal Wedding celebrations. Wealden District Council has so far received applications to close five streets in connection to Royal Wedding parties and enquiries about another six closures.
